Weld Mold 4250 is an aluminum bronze alloy used primarily for overlay and cladding application. Weld deposits exhibit high yield strength and hardness but lower tensile strength and ductility typical of other aluminum bronzes.
ApplicationsUsed where high hardness and very high loading pressures are encountered on bearing surfaces and draw dies. Superior wear resistance coupled with anti-galling and metal pickup properties.
ProcedureFor best results clean area of all foreign matter and debris. For the GMAW process a gas flow of 45-55 CFH is needed to insure a bright clean weld. Use a push technique with the gun at a 35° to 45° angle. A pre-heat of 1000°F is recommended when welding on pure copper. When using the GTAW process employ an arc length of 1/16″ to 3/16″ should be maintained with the tungsten extended 1/4″ to 3/8″ beyond the cup. A dip technique similar to welding aluminum is recommended.
